Hot chocolate gets a serious glow up with this indulgent recipe!
If you’ve never thought to add tahini to your hot chocolate, think again. The nutty, savory flavor of tahini blends beautifully with chocolate, and the two come together in your new favorite cold weather drink!
We love to garnish with lightly sweetened whipped cream and a sprinkle of sesame seeds, but mini marshmallows are never out of place. Check the notes for tips and substitutions!
Makes 4 Servings
2 cups whole milk
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
4 ounces semi or bittersweet chocolate, chopped
1/4 cup Joyva tahini
1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt
Heat the milk in a saucepan over low heat, till just hot to the touch and small bubbles form around the edges.
Add the sugar and cocoa powder and whisk till dissolved.
Add the chocolate, tahini and sea salt and whisk again till dissolved and continue whisking until hot.
Serve hot, with a dollop of whipped cream and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.
For a thicker drink, double the chocolate to 8 ounces.
You can substitute chocolate chips for the chopped chocolate.
To make this hot chocolate dairy free, use any nut or plant-based milk in place of the whole milk, and dairy free chocolate or chocolate chips. If serving with whipped cream use a dairy free version.
